Positive: The guest house in relatively new, approx 3 years. The owner Ahmed is wonderful and clearly understands hospitality, ensuring that I had transfers arranged from Male to Mahibadhoo and back, pickups and drop-offs at the harbor and taking care of my bags. He ran usually one excursion per day and they have their own boat and captain, so we got to see a lot of nice spots in the area for small group tours (1-4 guests usually) so it felt like a private adventure. He has a nice underwater and drone camera so he took footage of me on the excursions and provided me with the files included in the price so for me it was a good value for the money. Definitely recommend these excursions, especially the nurse sharks, turtles and manta ray snorkel adventures. My room on the top floor was just finished a month ago so it was brand new. The bed, pillows, mattress were really comfortable. Mini fridge in the room was great. Aircon was excellent. Shower had hot water and a new water heater. Nice shared terrace on every floor facing the sea with nice sun chairs and cushions and drying racks for your wet swim stuff. Ahmed recommended really tasty and affordable restaurants nearby and was always available via WhatsApp. I liked meeting other guests at the breakfast table and chatting with people playing cards downstairs in the evenings. They have snorkel equipment you can borrow. No shoes inside means it's usually very clean. The guest house is just a few steps away from a lovely public beach that the locals made really charming and keep clean volunteering. This means you need to be covered, as it is a Muslim country. If you want to wear your swimsuit, there's a tourist "bikini" beach with closed fencing just next to it which is also lovely and a few steps away. Free to use, even the loungers. There's a nice snorkel reef just off the beach! All in all, this place is great and will continue to get better as the development on the island and surroundings continue.

Negative: Don't rely on the wifi. It exists but when trying to take a call I had a download speed of 780 Kbps and uplpad of 670 Kbps... yikes. But when you need to book something or message someone, this is sufficient. Don't plan to work remotely on Mahibadhoo - lean into the island life instead. The bathroom was a typical island wet bathroom which is fine, but just having an open "window" hole in the wall to the outside was odd. This meant when it rained that my towel was soaked. I also would appreciate having a hair dryer, hand towel (separate from the very nice big bath towel) and soap (not just the shampoo in the bathroom). I asked other guests and they had the same so it wasn't a big deal but I think this could be an improvement for the future. I stayed here 6 nights and my room was cleaned once, for which I had to ask the cleaner twice. Because it's an island and you should put your toilet paper in the bin, and sheets get sweaty from humid nights, it would be nicer if he could clean a bit more often, even if it's just a quick and not a full one. The breakfast is very basic and served to you so you don't have a choice either. It switched between eggs with dry sausages and white toast (which wasn't always toasted) to sometimes the very tasty maldivian breakfast with tuna, egg and toast. Always fresh fruit and packaged orange juice. You have to ask for coffee or tea but keep in mind it's instant and might be cold if you ask for milk in it. I would love some more choice on the breakfast because I don't like sausages but I was hungry so I adapted. The breakfast was often very slow, even when i had prearranged to eat at a specific time, and I had to skip or eat it while walking to my excursions because the harbor and dive shop are on the other side of the island.

Summary: New place, great host, comfy island life (but don't work remotely here)
